One time development of Ducati 916 with family model is able to be traced back to the development of the four valve Ducati engine, through the development and racing of the earlier Pantah models, to the road-going 851 and 888 models.
Ducati's chief designer motorcycles since the 1970 was the late Fabio Taglioni (1920-2001). He introduced the Pantah in 1979. And it was engine was updated in the 1990s in the SuperSport (SS) series and all modern Ducati engines are derivatives of the Pantah, which employed a set of revolving cams to actuate the engine's valves (eliminating valve springs), called desmodromic. Ducati is currently the only motorcycle manufacturer which uses this type of valve actuation

Ducati Multistrada is a model of motorcycle introduced by Ducati when was 2003 year. The word Multistrada is Italian for "many roads" as the bike is designed to handle asphalt and dirt road riding with equal agility. Essentially the bike is a hybrid of a Supermoto and a Sport Touring bike. Its upright riding position gives it a stronger appeal for those who like touring but want something smaller than a touring bike. Designed by Ducati's head designer Pierre Terblanche as an evolution to Tereblanche's previous design the Cagiva Gran Canyon, the Multistrada has always received mixed reviews for its aesthetics. One magazine reviewer said the bike looked like a "wet cat with a large forehead". The Multistrada's most impressive technological advancement was the fuel tank that runs all the way to the rear of the back seat. The bike inspired the Ducati sponsored Centopassi "Competitive Motorcycle Adventure" in Italy in July 2003.
This Ducati competes in the same niche market as do other multi purpose motorcycles such as the BMW GS but even according to the Owners Manual the Multistrada is not intended for off-road use despite its off-road inspired design. and Multistrada is much lighter, more responsive and has better handling manners than most of the bikes in the same genre such as the Suzuki V-Strom 1000 and KTM Adventure due to many of the Ducati's race-track components such as the Brembo Brakes and extremely light 17" wheels. In 2007 Triumph released the 1050 cc Tiger, which has become the only bike to directly compete with Multistrada.

The Ducati 916 is just a personal favorite of everyone, each has good funky. But it is not to mention this would be an injustice. And primarily I love it just for how beautiful it is. I don't think there is a bike made which elicits as fond a feeling as this bike does when you look at it. The fact that it won countless super bike races in the years after its release is an added plus. And the impact it had on motto-design couldn't be denied by even the most stubborn of people. One-sided swing arm....under-tail exhaust....and just overall sex-appeal is too brilliant for words. It is beautiful enough to inspire poetry and music as would any beautiful woman. And like a beautiful woman, the 916 is precious....oh so precious.
