Kawasaki had claimed there was a noticeable improvement in top-end power from the new engine. A new piston and crankshaft reside in a new cylinder bore and crankcase respectively. The bore was chrome-composite coated, a first for Kawasaki's KX, and features revised porting and 'KIPS' valve. A new TMX38X carburettor, with a 'double-curved' slide, handles fuel delivery.
